fall beauty trends: get the look

NFBTSToday, I attended The Nordstrom Beauty Trends Show (Galleria Dallas) – aka a smorgasbord for makeup mavens – that covered every aspect of fall beauty from skincare to lips to eyes to cheeks, and of course, fragrance.

Nordstrom Beauty & Fragrance Director Debra Redmond and industry leading brands introduced trends with a runway show, giving attendees a glance at completed looks. Then they offered suggestions and tips to make it easy to shop for products to achieve each trend.

Before any makeup trends though, it is really important to start with a stable skincare regimen. Cleansing skin twice a day and exfoliating each week, at a frequency based on skin type, creates the perfect canvas for makeup application.

Now that your skin is prepared, here are the makeup trends for fall and my picks from some of the products I saw at the trend show:

Velvet Berry Lips – rich, deep shades with matte/velvet texture take center stage (pair with a neutral eye palette) This look has been a staple for many of the fashion bloggers I watch. If you can pull off a berry lip, DO IT!

Night Shades – updated smokey eye for day and night with gray or metallic shades (pair with a neutral lip) I love that the smokey eye has grown up so-to-speak. Shades of gray and metallics are in and I love a more subtle smokey eye with a little shimmer.

Sparkling Accents – a luminous look with subtle 3-D effect (eyes & cheeks with shimmer – like rose gold, lips with reflective glosses) A little sparkle is great and it goes a long way. With this trend, I caution you to highlight just one area of your face as your sparkling accent – choose eyes, cheeks or lips…not all three.

Scents are a very important part of any wardrobe and beauty regimen. I NEVER leave home without spraying on a great scent because I think it ties the whole look together.

Fall scents are sultry, bold and hearty. If you are not a fan of notes like musk, amber or patchouli, stick with the scents you prefer and feel most comfortable in. However, if you ready to mix up your fragrances, check out the picks I think you should consider trying this fall.

Time to put your best fall face forward, ladies…however; shop makeup counters wisely! Don’t buy something just because someone says you should. Buy what you feel is right for you, and; always ask to try products out at the counter before purchasing a bunch of items you never intend to use.

This post is powered by Nordstrom via Shiroma Southwest, however; all opinions within are my own.
