Last week I had the opportunity to volunteer for an organization called Guns and Hoses and I have to tell you, that was an amazing opportunity. Guns and Hoses raises money to help the dependents of first responders (police officers and fire fighters) that die in the line of duty.
So far this year, since January, they’ve helped the families of 7 heroes who have died in the line of duty, the families of the fallen heroes are contacted within 48 hours and given emotional and financial support. Some of the things they help with are establishing and adding to college funds for kids, school books, doctor and dentist visits and bills and Christmas presents.
This video was taken last week by my friend Jason Gilmore of Rocket Science Photography. Whole Foods at Preston and Forest donated 5% of all sales to Guns and Hoses and there were police officers and fire fighters there bagging groceries and helping people out to their cars. I volunteered with Dixie, my little dog, along with some amazing people including LeeAnne Locken, Allyson Aynesworth and Ira Terrell.
October 4th is the Guns and Hoses Annual TenFour Golf Tournament at the Prestonwood Country Club. The morning round will be police officers and fire fighters enjoying 18 holes of golf compliments of grateful fans, the afternoon round is teams of one police officer or fire fighter with one civilian battling against each other for the first annual TenFour Battle of the Badges Trophy. For more information on playing or sponsoring a player, please go to http://www.tenfourgolf.org.
