Dallas Off the Clock: Breakfast-Inspired Cocktails

Welcome to Dallas Off the Clock, a weekly column that highlights some of Dallas’ most innovative, exciting, and delicious cocktails.

This week's guide features cocktails that reflect elements of my favorite meal of the day, breakfast! I honestly can eat breakfast anytime. These cocktails represent the best part of what I love about breakfast food – creativity, flavor, and sweetness. Let's chow…I mean cheers!

Summer Gin Sour, The Keg – Plano, Irving, & Arlington

When I have Swedish Pancakes, I prefer to have them with orange marmalade over the traditional lingonberry jam. I think the light pancake pairs better with citrus. If you like that combination as well, consider this cocktail. A heavy pour of Hendrick's Gin and Grand Mariner gives this drink some body. Lemon juice, a dollop of orange marmalade, and egg whites give it a light, fresh, and slightly sweet flavor making it the perfect patio cocktail.

Fruit Loops (shot), Henry's Tavern – Plano

I don't know about you, but Fruit Loops are still a favorite breakfast food choice of mine. If you love the cereal, trust me, you will love this shot. Three Olives Loopy Vodka, orange and pineapple juices, and grenadine syrup combine together creating a fruity explosion in your mouth.

Blossom, Tricky Fish – Richardson

If strawberry jam is your go-to breakfast condiment, try it in a cocktail. Bacardi Rum, lemon, berry blossom tea, and strawberry jam combine creating a simple, yet refreshingly sweet, brunch cocktail. This drink pairs well with any of the dishes on the new Tricky Fish brunch menu, but I really enjoyed having it with Andouille Hash & Eggs.
