Recently I decided to buy and try cult-favorite Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips to see how it compares to my favorite lip balm from Sara Happ, The Lip Slip. (The Sara Happ site is currently under construction.)
Originally created for nipples…not lips, Dr. Lipp is 100% medical grade lanolin, from Australian Sheep’s wool. The product is super thick and aims to hydrate dry, flaky skin. Somehow Dr. Lipp made its way into the lives of makeup artists and a cult-favorite multipurpose product was born. Dr. Lipp is now used for just about anything from chaffed nipples to chapped lips to dry cuticles.
Sara Happ The Lip Slip is also a super thick lip product that aims to hydrate and soften lips. The list of ingredients that make up The Lip Slip is long but it includes Beeswax, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and a host of other items. To my knowledge, The Lip Slip is solely a lip product.
I wore Dr. Lipp for 7 days, then switched to The Lip Slip for 7 days. During the challenge, I documented my thoughts.
Nothing can beat Sara Happ! The smooth, velvety feel, low sheen formula of The Lip Slip is tops. Dr. Lipp has a very thick consistency, however the consistency changes once it warms on the lips. On me it became slick, shiny, and slightly grainy instead of remaining smooth and thick. The Lip Slip also warms on the lips, but it remains very close to the original consistency.
The Lip Slip is long-lasting. I think I reapplied a few times in a day…mainly after eating or drinking without a straw. During the challenge, I reapplied Dr. Lipp at least once an hour. Dr. Lipp is supposed to be tasteless but I found it to have a very strong, unpleasant taste. This was a big turn off for me. The Lip Slip does contain an undisclosed flavor and saccharin. I must say they hide these ingredients well in the formula because I do not taste them at all.
I will likely use Dr. Lipp as an instant fix for dry cuticles. I will never wear it on my lips.
Have you tried either of these lip balms? If so, what did you like or dislike? If not, are you planning to try either?
