Award winning event planner and native Dallasite Steve Kemble, dishes with me on where he dines, his thought on Dallas style and tips on how to put together a fabulous event on a budget.
What are your thoughts on Dallas when it comes to fashion? Are we fashion forward? Are we trendsetters or trend followers?
Fashion in Dallas is amazing! I refer to it as SassFab! I feel Dallasites have always been fashion forward and setting the trends! For example, I feel we started the trend of wearing cowboy boots with just about every form of fashion craze you can think of for both men and women!
What fashion trends do you see in the Metroplex that you have not seen in other places you have traveled?
I have traveled the globe and what I love most about fashion in Dallas is both men and women still dress for everything from grocery shopping to an evening out on the town!! It’s non-stop glamour every day! In this day and age of sweatpants and fanny packs being an acceptable form of fashion for airline travel (SHOCKING!), being out and about in Dallas and seeing sassy fashion is refreshing!
What are your fashion do’s and don’ts for Dallas?
Do express yourself! And since we are past Labor Day, remember the biggest fashion “don’t” in my book is no white after Labor Day! And that includes white meat in your chicken salad!
How long have you lived in Dallas? Tell me about why you choose to live in Dallas?
I am a native Dallasite and have lived here for most of my life! I choose to live in Dallas because of the people. There is not a place on earth with a nicer collection of people!
What are some tips for putting together a fantastic event in your home on a small budget?
Three Quick Tips:
1) The Guest List: Give the time to select a cross-section of people from various professions and backgrounds. This will make the conversation interesting and lively…no one wants to go to a party where everyone is basically from the same mold!
2) Candles! Candles! Candles! Candles are the most cost-effective way to create an atmosphere! Use them in all shapes and sizes, but I suggest non-scented candles in the dining area.
3) Think Monochromatic: When selecting florals for your event, you get a bigger bang for your buck by selecting florals in one color. It gives you a greater impact while making a beautiful statement.
When you want to pamper yourself where do you go in the city?
Bliss Spa at the W Dallas. It’s fabulous and oh! so! relaxing!
Where are some of favorite places to eat in Dallas?
Stephan Pyles’ in the Arts District, Fearing’s at the Ritz Carlton, and Primo’s Mexican Food on McKinney Avenue.
Do you feel Dallas will ever have a Fashion Week?
I certainly do! Dallas is one of the fashion capitals of the United States, if not the world! Fashion’s Night Out this year was amazing. I was at the Galleria Dallas and it was fabulous! Former Bob Mackie model Jan Strimple had models strutting down the longest catwalk in North America; Celebrity DJ Brandon Olds was spinning tunes; The Fashionistas had a sassy Champagne Lounge in the middle of the center; and Robert Stock of Robert Graham was on hand signing autographs!
What is your favorite fragrance?
Versace! I create my own blend. I mix three different Versace fragrances (Dreamer, the blue and the purple) to create the special blend I have worn for over ten years!
