@leslietypes: 2012 nanowrimo participant…call me crazy

I love to write…obviously because I have a blog but recently I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo.  November 1st -30st is National Novel Writing Month.  The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days straight without editing in any way.  The idea is to just get the story out and all the editing can take place starting December 1st.

Why am I doing this?  Well, I wanted to participate last year but I chickened out and didn’t even sign up.  I do not know anything about creating a work of fiction.  I have no real idea of how to develop characters or even how to string a story together.  I am doing this because I love a writing challenge.  I do not have to write a bestseller, I just have to write.  No pressure, eh?!

So, what am I going to write about? I have given this a lot of thought and finally decided that I am going to write a novel that is based on things I love and find interesting: sports, media, growth and love.  Can I really do this?  I am unsure but I am giving it a whirl!  Here are some of the particulars:

Title – Uncovered

Short Synopsis – Reporting, sports and love collide is a way that uncovers the secrets and passions within.  In ‘Uncovered’, Leslie Chatman presents Willow, a story hungry reporter for a local news organization and Trent, a dynamic emerging professional football standout in a story detailing the intricate mysteries of life and love.  The story takes place over 30 days and Chatman gives readers insight to these characters through thoughtful, intense dialogue and a story that is so true to life, it could be real.

Does that grab you?  Geez, I hope so because I will post excerpts weekly on Pop Goes The City and feedback is always welcome.

50,000 words in 30 days is about 1,666 words a day, right?  Yes, it is and this is really going to be hard for me.  I have become a master at saying what I want to say in as few words as possible.  I am trying to let the story lead me and I hope in doing so I will have 50,000 words by November 30th.

If you want to keep up with my progress and word count, watch the counter to the right under “30 Days To A Novel”.  Each week I will upload my word count to the NaNoWriMo website and post an excerpt for the NaNoWriMo community to read.

Ok, here we go…November 1st will be here before I know it.  November 30th is 50,000 words away.
