LEAP (Life Enhancement Association for People), is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enhancing and enriching the lives of people around the world by providing specialized medical services. The primary goal of LEAP is to serve others in the name of Christ. LEAP is comprised of volunteer plastic surgeons, urologists, eye surgeons, anesthesiologists, orthodontists, nurses and support staff. Dedicating time, expertise and often their own resources, these volunteers endeavor to bring free surgical care to children and adults born with deformities.  Read more on the LEAP Foundation Website.

The 2nd annual Cupcake Camp, a one day event, will be held Saturday, June 2nd at St. Mark’s School of Texas at 10600 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75230.  The ticket price is $10 for general admission, $5 for children under 10,  and children 4 yrs old and under are free.  All attendees must purchase a ticket to enter…remember…this is for charity and the event will feature cupcakes from around the city.  Click here to get tickets!

Your ticket gives you admission and can be redeemed for 5 tasting coupons.  Tasting coupons may be redeemed for cupcakes.  Each amateur baker cupcake will cost 1 tasting coupon and each professional baker cupcake will cost 2 tasting coupons.  Additional tasting coupons will be for purchase at the event for $2 each.  Doors to the event open at 1pm and there will be contests going on throughout the day for all age groups.  There will also be cupcake judging going on so stick around to hear the winners announced at 3pm.

Yellow is one of my favorite colors and I have seen a lot of people wearing it this week.  Sunny, fun and bright, yellow is a happy color.  Uplifting and if done right, stunning.

I was a bad daughter… With everything I had going on the week prior to Mother’s Day, I did not have a gift for my mom on Sunday.  I love my mom for being so understanding, but I knew when I got her gift, it had to be something simply fabulous.

After spending about 30 minutes smelling all the lovely scents at the Bond No. 9 counter at Saks Galleria Dallas, I made my pick of the one I thought my mom would love best.  I selected Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue, with notes of blue cypress, fennel, roasted almonds, pink peony, crème brulée, and sandalwood.  I surprised her with it last night and she was elated!  I think I did pretty good!

I put off buying a pair of cowboy boots for months.  Since I have never owned a pair before I didn’t quite know what to expect.  I remembered a seeing a place called Pinks when traveling Preston to and from 635.  I liked the name, so I decided to stop there last Tuesday after work.  This wasn’t my first time in a western store but it was a first time that I would be the one making a purchase.

After explaining that I am a cowboy boot virgin, Steven directed me in my search.  He explained the fit of pointed, round and square toe boots and why I want my heel to slip.  After trying on about 4 pair that fit the colors and style I liked, I went back the first pair I tried on pictured above, the Corral Ladies Chocolate Natural Africa Distressed Goat Leather.  

The pair I purchased is actually quite a bit lighter in color but I fell in love with them and because they are so neutral, I will get a lot of wear out of them.  Yep – that’s right!  I will wear them more than once but my first outing in them will be to the Silver Dollar Ball Saturday night.  If you are at the Ball on Saturday, come check me out in my new boots!

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I went for dinner at Zoës Kitchen in Plano at Park and Preston.  I had never been there before but it came with high recommendation so, without knowing the type of food served, we decided to try it.

Zoës Kitchen is a casual restaurant serving Mediterranean-inspired recipes, fast.  Fresh made hummas, pitas, Greek salad and other Mediterranean-inspired dishes fill the menu making it really hard to choose.  We settled on splitting the Steak Roll Ups with sliced tri-tip, swiss, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, yogurt dipping sauce with their olive oil Pasta Salad side and a Zoës classic Greek Salad – tomato, cucumber, peppers, olives, onions, feta over potato salad.

I highly recommend the Steak Roll Ups!  The steak is lean and thinly sliced and the pasta salad  comes with no mayo, just olive oil and it is really light.  I imagine the pasta salad pairs well with much more on the menu but I suggest you try it first with the steak roll ups.

Steak not your thing?  Try the Chicken Roll Ups…I bet they are just as good.  Look for Zoës Kitchen in North Texas, the Houston area and in Austin.

The 8th annual Night of Hope gala is a 50th anniversary celebration of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  On May 4, 2012 at  eM the Venue 1500 Dragon Street, Suite D Dallas, Texas 75207, more than 300 guests are anticipated to attend the event hosted by A Moment´s Notice and other notable entertainment personalities.  The Red Carpet, Cocktail Hour begins at 6:30pm with full festivities: presentation and dinner beginning at 7:30pm.

Nearly 50 years ago, Danny Thomas opened St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on the belief that “No child should die in the dawn of life.” Today, St. Jude is the premier pediatric cancer research center in the United States and around the world, and no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.

Be part of this evening of dinner, drinks and dancing to raise awareness and support of St. Jude within the Dallas and Forth Worth Hispanic community.

The event will feature a selection of Dallas’ top chefs and restaurants, showcasing their finest international cuisine.
